The lighting in certain parts of the frame can be overly contrasty. And by nature, people pay attention to the brightest elements of the image. In the case of portrait shots, the eyes should be the main focus. But often the light in the frame is so bright that the viewer can not concentrate on the main parts. Thankfully, Adobe Photoshop has special tools for managing glare without affecting the shadows. The method quickly solves the problem and equalizes the lighting in the frame.
How to remove glare on the image in Adobe Photoshop
Following the instructions, you can quickly adjust the highlights without affecting the shadows.
- To begin with, it is worth opening an image with a problem area.
- Next, it is worth preparing an adjustment layer “Levels” by performing the following actions: – “Layer” – New adjustment layer” – ”Levels.
- The created layer should be given a name and click on “Ok”.
- Next, you should change the blending parameters to “Multiply”.
- As you can see, after performing these actions, the picture became more turbid, and those elements where there were highlights darkened. Our task is to highlight the darker highlights, without interacting with the shadows and other parts of the frame.
- In the opened palette of layers it is worth looking for the mask of the adjustment layer.
- Find the “Color Balance” item, and start controlling the colors.
At first glance, the image may look strange, but the highlights will definitely darken. On the rest of the image, the effect will be less pronounced, so you’ll need to tweak it slightly to fine-tune the areas of influence.
Working with masks
Next, you should move on to work with masks that have customizations. Already in Adobe Photoshop CS6 is available dynamic adjustment of the intensity of the mask and its blurring. In this case, you should open the panel with the parameters of adjustment layers, and then go to the “Window” menu and select “Properties”.
Next you will need to change the parameters of the item “Blur” in the “Properties” window. The indicator is selected for each picture, taking into account the number of highlights and their intensity. However, dynamic sliders will allow you to see how the result will change in real time. Often, a 100 px blur is sufficient.
After adjusting the number of blurs, it will remain to choose the intensity by changing the opacity value. As in the previous case, the amount is selected for each individual frame, but it is better to start with a parameter of 70%.
At this stage, the processing can be considered complete. And although at first it may seem that the instruction is complicated, if you do it a couple of times, no problems will arise in the future. Thus, you will have at your disposal an effective method for local correction of highlights without contact with shadows and darkening important elements in the image.
